The Office of Housing and Residence Life is committed to sustainability. All new building projects, such as the Glenn A. Niemeyer building and South Apartments C, D, and E are designed and constructed to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. In order to improve a building’s performance and reduce its negative impact on the environment, LEED focuses on developing sustainable sites, increasing water efficiency, reducing energy consumption, using materials and resources in a responsible manner, and creating healthy indoor environments.
Additionally, energy efficient appliances, campus recycling, residential energy savings competitions, and the campus connector transportation system are all initiatives that are becoming a way of life in our on-campus residential areas and the campus community at large.
