Recognition of Virginia Gottshall

Dedication of Military Nursing Uniform worn by Virginia Mae Gottshall during WWII

Every day, nurses step forward embracing new technologies, resolving emerging issues, and accepting ever-changing roles in their profession.  They lead the way for their patients, colleagues, and the health care industry as a whole.

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday.  These permanent dates enhance planning and position National Nurses Week as an established recognition event.  The week helps to raise awareness about nursing as a possible career choice and also to educate the public about the kind of work nurses are involved in.

Military nurses provide an invaluable service across the globe, be it on the battlefield, at sea or ashore.  For that reason, we seek to honor and recognize these unsung heroes who advocate, lead, and care for others.
