Annual Programs

To educate and bring awareness to our campus and the surrounding community, the Women's Center offers many opportunities to attend programs related to gender justice on an annual basis:

Athena Connections
Based on the ATHENA Leadership tenants, this annual celebration brings together women community leaders and students to talk about leadership. 

Call for Art and Gallery
The Women's Center has a rotating art collection; every April we accept submissions from students, faculty, staff, and community members to be on display the following academic year.

Conversations on Loving Your Body (National Eating Disorder Awareness Week)
In conjunction with National Eating Disorders Awareness Week that takes place each year, the Women's Center hosts a dynamic series of events raising awareness of body image issues, how to address them, and how to feel empowered through recognizing personal beauty.

Domestic/Dating Violence Awareness Month
October is Dating and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  In recognition, the GVSU Women's Center, in collaboration with other campus departments and community organizations, host a number of events to raise awareness about this important issue.

Dress for Success
Partnering with Hospitality and Tourism Management students, Career Services, and other campus partners, the Women's Center offers this event to provide information about how students can dress professionally on a budget.

EqualiTea
Join other activist faculty, staff, students, and community members for the celebration of a centuries-old tradition of combining tea parties with discussions of literature, politics, and reform.

Fair Trade Holiday Boutique
The Women's Center hosts a Fair Trade Holiday Boutique each December to provide students, faculty, and staff on campus the opportunity to buy fair trade, women-made goods.

Fireside Chats
In partnership with the Women's Commission, Fireside Chats provide a safe environment for diverse women from across campus to engage in dialogue about gender-related topics while also getting to know each other and building relationships.

Her Story
In partnership with the Women's Commission, the Her Story"series offers an opportunity for the GVSU community to listen to the authentic stories of women in leadership position at GVSU. 

Holland Noon Series
The Women's Center hosts educational programs during the noon hour on the GVSU Meijer Holland Campus on different topics that interest the community. Continuing Education credits are available!

Pipeline Programs
We recognize the importance of engaging with K-12 students in our community in order to increase access to higher education. We work with our community partners to host Celebrating Girls in Sports, Girl Scouts STEM College Readiness, and Girls on the Run each year.

RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) Program
The Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) System is a physical defense program of realistic tactics and techniques for women. 

Ready to Run Campaign Training For Women
Ready to Run is a bipartisan program for women who want to run for office, work on a campaign, get appointed to public office or learn more about the political system.

Women & Environment Symposium
The GVSU Women's Center annually collaborates with the West Michigan Environmental Action Council (WMEAC) to host a Women & Environment Symposium to explore the intersection between women’s issues and environmental concerns

Women's History Month
The month of March is Women's History Month. Each year, the Women's Center partners with Women & Gender Studies to offer dynamic events and programs.
