Eyes Wide Open - Sexual Assault Peer Educators
Come meet Eyes Wide Open!
Mondays at 9:00pm, Kirkhof 2266
All are welcome!
Eyes Wide Open is a student organization for sexual assault peer educators at Grand Valley State University. Our mission is to provide support for sexual assault survivors, while educating the greater GVSU community on the issue of sexual assault. We put on educational programs for classes, campus organizations, and other community organizations. Each year we host Take Back the Night and cosponsor Rock Against Rape (RAR) along with other programming. Below you will find more information about becoming a member, the recruitment timeline, the history of the group and our upcoming events.
Becoming a Member
To become an active member, a student must apply, go through an interview process, and attend our Summer or Winter training. During our training we cover topics related to sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and sexual harassment. *We encourage both men and women to apply to join our organization as raising awareness on these important issues is not a single sex issue.
All students are welcome to attend our weekly meetings on Mondays at 9pm in KC 2266. If you would like more information or are interested in joining Eyes Wide Open, please contact us at email@example.com. To complete our online application via OrgSync, click here.
History of Eyes Wide Open
In the 2001-2002 school year Eyes Wide Open was created by a committed group of students with support from the Women's Center. The student group educates students by dispelling myths related to sexual assault and other forms of violence.
The primary goals are to teach students about the resources available for survivors of sexual assault, to create a campus culture that prevents assaults from happening, and to provide campus-wide programming to students, faculty, and staff.
Presentations given by Eyes Wide Open members are interactive and effective. They are specifically designed for the class or group in which they are being presented and can include same-gender or mixed-gender audiences. If you are interested in learning more about the group or would like to schedule a presentation, please contact the organization at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact the Women's Center at 1201 Kirkhof, (616) 331-2748.
