Classes for graduate students in this major meet downtown on the Robert C. Pew Grand Rapids Campus.

Clinicals are in-person at the assigned institution, and didactic courses are online. Students remain at one clinical location for the entire year (which are located across the U.S.) and are required to come on-site to the GVSU Health Campus, near the Grand Rapids Medical Mile, one time during the year (a three day visit for orientation). The remainder of the courses are online.

Coursework

Students who are accepted into the combined degree program will take courses in the AHS general emphasis and use up to a maximum of 12 M.P.H. credits as a substitution for the required minor. The students must complete the following M.P.H. courses in their senior year:

  • PH 500 - Introduction to Public Health
  • PH 505 - Social and Behavioral Public Health
  • PH 510 - Public Health Epidemiology
  • PH 530 - Qualitative Research Methods in Public Health
  • PH 602 - Chronic Disease Epidemiology OR PH 622 - Health Behavior and Promotion
  • STA 610 - Applied Statistics for Health Professions

The digital badge is comprised of two courses, a total of seven credits.

  • EGR 543 - Electromagnetic Compatibility
  • EGR 643 - PCB Design and EMC

The courses include lecture, discussion, and laboratory hours. Both classes must be passed with a B or better. See gvsu.edu/catalog for individual course details.

The curriculum meets the requirements prescribed by the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists, so that successfully completing the 38-credit hour didactic and clinical curriculum qualifies the graduate's eligibility to sit for the MDCB examination and become a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD).

Students study a variety of topics that include:

Students accepted into the program may take up to four, three-credit graduate-level communication courses for a total of 12 credits their senior year. Taken in lieu of free electives, they will count toward the fulfillment of requirements for both their baccalaureate and graduate degrees.

The program consists of:

  • Four classes in computer information systems
  • Four classes in statistics
  • Three professional science classes, including an internship
  • One elective course

Students are expected to complete field experiences and collaborative assignments and projects.

Students admitted to this program will count up to 12 credits of graduate work in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the undergraduate degree.

Initial review of applications for fall begins February 1. The program continues to accept applications that meet the admissions requirements until the start of the program in August. Submitting a completed application will secure you a spot on the waitlist but does not guarantee a review of your application. Late applications will be reviewed in the order that they are completed if seats do open before the program begins. The $30 nonrefundable application fee is waived if the applicant has previously applied to GVSU.
