Executive Committee/Officers
The Alumni Association is led by the Executive Committee which consists of the president, three or more vice presidents, the secretary, the executive director, the immediate past president, and the faculty representative. Terms of executive officers are three years. Officers are elected from and by the GVSU Alumni Association Board of Directors membership. For nomination and election to the Executive Committee as an officer, the person must have served on the Association Board for a minimum of two years.
Executive Officer Job Descriptions
President
The president is the senior volunteer leader of the Association.
Responsibilities:

Preside at all meetings of the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, and other meetings as required.

Work in cooperation with the executive director, the Executive Committee, committee chairs, and the alumni staff board administrator to develop agendas for board meetings and to set an annual calendar of meetings for the board.

Work in cooperation with the executive director, the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, and the alumni staff board administrator to establish and appoint members to committees.

Annually appoint the Nominating Committee to ensure the careful selection of nominees for open officer and board member positions.

Keep meetings on track and orderly by following a prepared agenda.

Ensure that all board members are given equal opportunity to make their voices heard at board meetings in regards to board and association business.

The president has the right to attend all committee and sub-committee meetings as an ex-officio member, in addition to other activities and University events.

Vote only in tie-breaking situations.

Act as a spokesperson for the Alumni Association or designate, when appropriate, another member of the Executive Committee for that purpose.

Serve as the immediate past president upon completion of term as president.

The president may be invited to attend and/or present at, or designate, when appropriate, a Vice President for that purpose, University events such as Board of Trustee meetings, Commencement Ceremonies (to present alumni association awards), and from time to time on special committees/task forces of the University such as the Strategic Positioning steering committee.
First Vice President
The first vice president shall perform and discharge the duties of the chair in the case of absence, death, or disability of the president, and shall perform such other duties as prescribed in the association bylaws.
Responsibilities:

Serve as the chair of a designated committee(s), and preside over regularly scheduled meetings of this committee(s).

Work with the executive director, committee members, and the alumni staff board administrator to develop an annual committee plan to guide the committee’s work and create agendas for committee meetings of which he/she chairs.

Ensure regular meeting minutes are recorded and disseminated for all subcommittee meetings of which he/she chairs.

Serve on the Executive Committee.

Fill the office of president should that office become vacant.

Assist the president in execution of his/her duties.
Vice Presidents and Faculty Representative
Responsibilities:

Serve as the chair of a designated committee(s), and preside over regularly scheduled meetings of this committee(s).

Work with the executive director, committee members, and the alumni staff board administrator to develop an annual committee plan to guide the committee’s work, and create agendas for committee meetings of which he/she chairs.

Secretary/Treasurer
Responsibilities

Record and transcribe all official meetings of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee.

Work in conjunction with the alumni staff board administrator to maintain accurate records of the Association, and to direct all notices and correspondence to the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, and/or members of the Association.

Conduct roll call at all meetings of the board as part of the meeting records and inform the president if a board member is subject to removal for lack of attendance.

Serve as the chair of a designated committee(s), and preside over regularly scheduled meetings of this committee(s).

Work with the executive director, committee members, and the alumni staff board administrator to develop an annual committee plan to guide the committee’s work, and create agendas for committee meetings of which he/she chairs.
