Corky Meinecke Scholarship
ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
Corky Meinecke, a 1977 GVSU graduate, died in 1997 of cancer. Corky was a sports writer for the the Grand Rapids Press, Bay City Times, Detroit News and Detroit Free Press. His last beat was covering the Detroit Pistons. As a Grand Valley student, he wrote for the Lanthorn and worked in the sports information department.
Members of the Meinecke family and the local print media established this scholarship to honor Corky's memory and host an annual golf outing with proceeds benefitting the scholarship. The number and amount of the annual award varies based on eligible recipients.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
The scholarship is awarded to a student(s) who is associated with intercollegiate athletics at GVSU and who displays the character and values of Corky Meinecke (sports writers, marketing, promotions, strong athletic interest.)
HOW ARE RECIPIENTS SELECTED?
Applications are reviewed by the GVSU Scholarship Committee. Recipients are notified of receipt of the scholarship in April.
