GVSU Alumni Association Board of Directors
Roles and Responsibilities
Individual Board members act as representatives for the Alumni Association and should be knowledgeable of all association programs. Board members serve on at least one committee and should lend their professional expertise as needed. Board members are expected to participate actively and consistently in Board functions and to demonstrate leadership in a variety of University volunteer activities. It is anticipated that Board members will:
-
attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled meetings of the Board of Directors, contribute original thinking and offer fresh ideas and viewpoints.
-
actively participate on a board committee. Committee meetings will be scheduled by the committee chair on a regular basis and are normally held via conference call.
-
identify and recruit talented alumni for the Board, alumni programs and activities, and alumni awards.
-
be a recognized spokesperson and advocate for the University and the Alumni Association in his/her community.
-
attend local or regional club activities and University events, talk to prospective area students and meet with other area alumni or visiting University representatives.
-
contribute financially to the University on an annual basis.
The Board seeks members who have supported alumni involvement through the Alumni Association or elsewhere in the University, regularly participate in the Annual Giving program and support the Alumni Association's mission. The Association strives to create a body that represents the diversity of the Association's membership.
The Board of Directors meets four times per year. Meetings generally begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and conclude with lunch. Attendance at board meetings is critical, so dates are scheduled well in advance. Board members serve a maximum of two consecutive 3-year terms.
