David Ruck, '04 & '07, a two-time graduate of the GVSU School of Communications premiered his documentary at the Loosemore Forum in Grand Rapids at the L. William Seidman Center on October 10, 2014. Following the film, David answered questions along with two other panelists, Chris Plouff with the School of Engineering and John Schmit with the School of Communications.
Alumni, students, faculty and staff who have had many fond experiences with the Study Abroad program at Grand Valley, attended the second annual Study Abroad Alumni Reunion on September 25, 2014. Nearly 150 people gathered at Clubhouse 66 on Thursday, Sept 4 for a pre-game tailgate in California to help the GVSU football team kick off its season vs. Azusa Pacific University. SoCal Alumni Club members, alumni from Las Vegas and Arizona attended along with many parents of players, family, and friends of the university from all over the United States attended, even as far as Hawaii!
University President Tom Haas and Tim Selgo spoke at the tailgate event. GVSU took on Azusa Pacific at 6 p.m. PST and lost the game in double overtime. For more information on Laker football and athletics go to: www.gvsulakers.com.
Traverse City alumni club leaders hosted area alumni at the Mission Table Tasting Room on August 21, 2014. The group sipped local beer and wine, enjoyed delectable nosh and discussed the importance of financially supporting their alma mater. The club also recorded a congratulations video to the graduating class of fall 2014, which will be played at the Toast with T. Haas event - an event for GV seniors hosted by the university president - in November.
Alumni returned to campus on August 19, 2014 to help more than 4,000 freshmen and their families move on to campus during welcome week. Students were assisted by 132 volunteers during morning and afternoon shifts at various living centers. The group also filled out cards with their best advice for first year students.
The first ever alumni fundraiser event took place on August 7, 2014 at the L. William Seidman Center. Rockin’ on the River, an 80s themed event, hosted more than 100 alumni and friends of the university, including special guests President Emeritus Don Lubbers and his wife Nancy. Dan Hosford, ’02 was the emcee and discussed the impact of alumni whose ticket event ticket purchases supported the Pathways Scholarship Fund. Attendees mingled on the patio of the L. William Seidman Center and danced to the music of 80's cover band Rocket 8. More than $1,400 was raised to support the Pathways Scholarship Fund.

The Metro Detroit Alumni Club enjoyed a fun-filled summer picnic at Stony Creek Metro Park. Alumni enjoyed playing lawn games and eating delicious picnic style food while sharing Laker traditions with one another.
