It was a fun filled afternoon as GVSU Alumni Relations welcomed a special visitor all the way from the North Pole. Future Lakers anxiously waited to have their photos taken with Santa & Louie and find out if they were on his naughty or nice list. Attendees also took part in crafts and enjoyed a delicious holiday brunch. There was even a special appearance from Buddy the Elf! The GVSU Metro Chicago Alumni Club held its annual holiday sweater party on December 11 at Black Finn Ameripub in downtown Chicago. The group enjoyed food, beverages and the company of their fellow Lakers. Attendees voted on the best ugly sweaters and prizes were given out to the Lakers with the top three votes. On December 5, 2014 the GVSU Detroit Alumni Club hosted nearly 60 alums at Novi Bowl for a night of bowling, holiday cheer and ugly sweaters! The club was also able to collect over 30 non-perishable food items for Gleaners Community Food Bank. Thank you to everyone who participated. We hope you had fun! GVSU alumni came from as far as San Antonio to celebrate Grand Valley at the Austin Alumni Networking event held on November 13, 2014 at the Dogwood Inn. The group socialized while videos of Grand Valley campus updates played in the background. Graduate years ranged from 1968 to 2013, and everyone had GVSU fond memories to share.

A record number of alumni volunteers assisted at the Academic Major Fair on November 5, 2014. With the help of alumni professionals working in numerous discipline areas, the university was able to assist 580 GVSU students in making informed choices about their futures. In addition, the 70 high school “dual enrolled” students from Hamilton, Saugatuck, and Holland passed through. The fair would not have been a success without the help of alumni volunteering your time and passion with future graduates.
The GVSU Young Alumni Council teamed up with the Grand Rapids Young Professionals and the Grand Rapids Drive for a night of fun and new connections at Bagger Dave’s. Attendees had the opportunity to win several prizes throughout the night. There was also a surprise guest appearance by GVSU’s own Louie the Laker. This networking reception was a welcomed collaboration of young influencers in the West Michigan area.
On Saturday, October 18th, the 5th annual GVSU hockey alumni game took place at the Georgetown Ice Arena. 32 players took part in this annual event, some traveling from as far away as Phoenix, Arizona. Following the alumni game, the current DII GVSU Hockey Team played Central Michigan in a 2-0 victory game.
