Steven Keteyian, '78

Program Director of Preventive Cardiology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Steven Keteyian, ’78 began his studies at Grand Valley State University and earned his B.S. in physical education. He continued to the University of Northern Colorado to earn his M.A. in exercise physiology and a Ph.D. from Wayne State University.
 
In addition to his work in preventative cardiology, Keteyian is also Director of the Henry Ford Clinical Exercise Physiology Core Laboratory, a research unit that supports clinical trials investigating new medical, surgical and device therapies for patients with cardiovascular disease. His research focuses on the role of exercise testing and training in patients with chronic heart failure with a special interest in skeletal muscle function.
 
Keteyian is the author of more than 60 published articles and has co-authored four books in the areas of cardiology, rehabilitation, and therapeutic exercise. He has also been editor-in-chief of Clinical Exercise Physiology, associate editor for Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, and a member of the editorial boards for the Journal of Cardiac Failure and Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation.
 
He is an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Heart Association, and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. He also serves as co-chairperson of the steering committee for Heart Failure – A Controlled Trial Investigating Outcomes of Exercise Training (HF-ACTION).
 
Keteyian and his wife currently live in Oxford, Michigan.
