Detroit Alumni Club Leaders Making the Club Experience Enjoyable for Fellow Lakers

Diana Bushman, '99, Jessica Marcou, '07, Rachel Wion, '12 and Brad Gibbons, '08 have been leading the Detroit Alumni Club for the past several years.

They all agree that sharing fun moments with their fellow alumni is the best part of being volunteer club leaders. Some of the most memorable events have been the Ugly Christmas Sweater Party, Detroit Tigers baseball outings, and Community Outreach Week. Rachel, Diana, Jessica and Brad are great examples of alumni club leaders that go above and beyond to make sure Laker graduates are staying connected to their alma mater while living in the Metro Detroit Area.

Check out the Metro Detroit Alumni Club or click here to connect with one of the other 17 clubs around the world.

Back-to-School Safety: A Message from Liberty Mutual Insurance

Every fall millions of children move on from the lazy days of summer to the rigors of the classroom. These tips can help ease the transition - safely.
  • Dispel worries. Talk to your kids in a positive way and let them know it's okay to feel nervous when starting something new and exciting.
  • Create routines. Establish daily routines at home to help children adjust. It will manage their expectations and benefit their work in the classroom.
  • Travel with care. Whether your children walk to school or take the bus, remind them about crossing roads cautiously and being a safe and courteous passenger.
  • Talk about bullying. Bullying takes many forms including name-calling, hitting, and harassment. Empower children to speak up if they are being bullied or witness others being bullied.
