Laker Travel Stories
ERICA WIENCEK '23
Rachel and I met in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program here at GVSU. After graduating in 2023, I moved to the east side, and Rachel moved west. We saw the alumni travel program as the perfect way to reconnect. Besides, who could pass up an opportunity to go to Ireland?! As fairly recent grads and early professionals, being able to turn off our brains and not plan a thing was a huge perk.
The trip itself was incredible. Our tour manager was incredibly knowledgeable, and we became immersed in the culture. It was an experience that felt akin to a study abroad program. We learned so much about the history, traditions, and geography of the region. The sights and experiences were truly unforgettable. As simple as it may seem, one of my favorite moments on the trip was popping into a pub for some live music.
RACHEL DIETERMAN '23
"The pub atmosphere was truly alive with energy. Locals and travelers alike gathered over a pint, sharing the joy of music and traditional Irish dance. It was a moment that captured the spirit of Ireland in the most authentic way.
Our time in Dublin was equally memorable, as we immersed ourselves in the country's rich history. We visited places like Trinity College, which house the Book of Kells, and the thousand year old Christ Church Cathedral. I was awestruck by the ancient beauty!
What truly made this trip unforgettable, though, was the incredible group of people I had the pleasure of traveling with. What started as a group of strangers quickly blossomed into a tight-knit community of friends. It was the perfect reminder that travel is not just about the destinations, but the connections we make along the way."

"Iceland was incredibly beautiful! It was wonderful to experience the land of fire & ice with other Lakers for a Lifetime witnessing waterfalls, whales, & other picturesque wonders!"
