Professional Development Minutes April 10, 2013

Meeting Highlights:

Please contact your group representative from the AP Professional Development Subcommittee if you have suggestions for future programs you would like to see offered.

Several committee members terms are completed and there will be new upcoming elections for Groups 1, 3, 4, and 5. Please visit www.gvsu.edu/ap to vote for your new group members in May.

An additional AP Professional Development meeting has been scheduled on Wednesday, May 8th to discuss committee membership elections/changes.

The AP Professional Development Subcommittee met on April 10, 2013 at 1:05 p.m. on the Allendale campus. Chair, Laura Kennert welcomed members and opened the meeting. Members in attendance included:

Laura Kennert, Group 1 Brenda Lindberg, Group 4

Takeelia Garrett-Lynn, Group 2 Bradley Gordon, Group 5

Margo Dill, Group 3

The Excellence Series sessions discussed were;

Leadership Your Team Can Follow, by Kim Monaghan, HR Career Services for Faculty & Staff Consultant

Bias Incident Protocol Training presented by members of the GVSU Team Against Bias (TAB)

Leadership Through Developing, Empowering, and Delegating by Andy Masters, Author & International Speaker

Strategies for Delivering Negative News by Ellen Schendel & Christopher Toth, Department of Writing

All of the above workshops and seminar trainings were well received by GVSU participants. Overall, most of the evaluations reflected a high level of satisfaction with the sessions.

New requests for future professional development sessions are: Communicating with Millennials, Ethics in Leadership and Promoting Transparent Business Styles, bring back, Getting to Know GVSU sessions for new employees, and employee responses for Active Shooter situations.
