Saxophonist Jonathan Nichol, assistant professor of music at Grnad Valley State University, holds a doctorate degree in musical arts (2010) and a master's degree in music (2007) from Michigan State University; and a bachelor's degree in music education from Central Michigan University (2005, summa cum laude). Nichol's primary teachers have been John Nichol, Joseph Lulloff, Rob Smith, Diego Rivera, and Rodney Whitaker. He is a recipient of the prestigious Michigan State University Distinguished Fellowship.
Nichol is a member of the acclaimed h2 Quartet, recipients of the prestigious Gold Medal at the 2007 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and First Prize Award at the inaugural North American Saxophone Alliance chamber Music Competition. He has performed with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Harry James Orchestra, Gene Krupa Orchestra, The Four Tops, The Fifth Dimension, Lansing Symphony big Band, Flint Symphony Orchestra, Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra, the Machine (Pink Floyd tribute band), and the Nichol Trio.
