The Color Field Ensemble performs and commissions music of the 21st century by emerging composers from diverse backgrounds, focusing on multidisciplinary experiences and works which reflect the relationship between the visual and performing arts. CFE is a collective of musicians, artists and composers dedicated to the creation, production and proliferation of contemporary performance.
Primary founding members and organizers of the ensemble are singer Amanda DeBoer Bartlett, saxophonist James Fusik and saxophonist and pianist Karl Larson.
In addition to numerous performances, the ensemble is deeply involved in contributing contemporary music to underserved arts communities in the Midwest and have produced an annual Festival for Contemporary Music in Madison, Wisconsin since 2010.
The ensemble has won numerous fellowships and awards, including a 2012 Classical/Contemporary Commissioning grant from Chamber Music America with composer Christopher Cerrone, and a 2010 Yamaha/College Music Society in-residence grant.
