The 19th Annual Cook Carillon International Concert Series closes with a recital by University Carillonneur Julianne Vanden Wyngaard. A native of Grand Rapids, Vanden Wyngaard began her musical study at the age of four and continued in piano at the Eastman School of Music; the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; and Michigan State University. She was a noted concert pianist when in 1967 she joined the faculty at Grand Valley, where her work has included piano studio teaching and management of the Arts at Noon Series. She served as the department chair for 12 years and completed her full-time work at Grand Valley as associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2005.
In 1999 Vanden Wyngaard qualified as a carillonneur member of The Guild of Carillonneurs in North America and received the first diploma in 2000. Since that time, she has been the principal performer on the carillons at Grand Valley's Allendale and Pew Grand Rapids Campuses. Vanden Wyngaard is a member of the board of directors of the GCNA.
