Beginning in 2003, Battle of the Valleys (BOTV) has now become a long-standing tradition at Grand Valley State University. This friendly competition with our rival institution, Saginaw Valley State University, creates a connection between students, alumni, local businesses, and the surrounding community through friendly competition that builds up to the annual football game between GVSU and SVSU. The competition helps to develop a sense of Laker pride and motivates our students to unite behind a great cause. Each university picks their own local beneficiary to raise money for in this competition. For 2014, BOTV runs from November 9th to November 15th.
The Grand Valley Children's Fund receives money from community donations. The major fundraising campaign is during the week of Battle of the Valleys. Only monies donated the week of Battle of the Valleys will be counted for the fundraising competition, per the Battle of the Valleys Rules. All the donations will go into this non-profit fund, and throughout the year, charities can apply for a mini-grant that can be used to fund programs, projects, or operational costs for the organization. Mini-grant applications will be available in 2015.
