January 29: 4:00 – 5:30 pm: “From Liberation to Persecution: Homosexuals in Weimar and Nazi Germany”: Jason Crouthamel, Ph.D., History, LIB 030 (Multi-purpose room), Mary Idema Pew Library, Allendale Campus.

In the ‘Golden Twenties’ after the First World War, Berlin was an ‘Eden’ for gay men and women to explore new gender and sexual possibilities in an atmosphere of unprecedented tolerance. This culture collapsed after 1933, when the Nazi regime persecuted homosexuals as social and racial enemies of the ‘National Community’.
