Dean's Advisory Board

Senior executives from successful West Michigan businesses provide a valuable source of counsel to the Seidman College of Business. Members of the Seidman Dean's Advisory Board work to integrate teaching, research, and business community support resulting in a dynamic flow of information and ideas between the school and West Michigan businesses. Working together, students, faculty, and local companies will be better prepared to conquer the business challenges of today and the future.

Board Members

 

Laurie Beard is the President & CEO of Founders Bank & Trust, a privately held, well-capitalized bank, with four branch locations in the Grand Rapids area. She serves on the Grand Rapids Community Foundation, Grand Valley University Foundation Board of Trustees, and the Grand Valley State University Women's Center Advisory Board. Laurie earned her MBA from the Seidman College of Business.


Jeffrey Bennett is the Co-Founder and President of Otterbase Technical Services, Inc. a full-service professional supplemental staffing company that has grown into a multi-million-dollar enterprise since it was established in 1998. Otterbase was spotlighted as one of the “Top 50 Companies to Watch in Michigan” in 2005, an inaugural award sponsored by the Edward Lowe Foundation. Bennet was named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year in 2005 in the business services category.


Carole Bos is a Founding Partner of Bos & Glazier, P.L.C. She is a trial lawyer and nationally known author and lecturer. Seeing both sides of an issue for more than two decades, Bos prosecutes cases for plaintiffs but also defends litigation for corporations. She has written two inspirational books: Life is a Nonstop Event and Marriage is a Balance Beam.
 

John Bultema III serves as Executive Vice President, Business Banking Group, of Fifth Third Bank. John is also a member of the Grand Rapids Downtown Development Authority. John received his undergraduate degree in Business from the Seidman College.
 

Edward Clark is the Chairman, CEO, and Majority Shareholder for American Seating Company. He holds degrees from Ohio State University and University of Pennsylvania and his career includes service with Ford Motor Company, Haworth, and Hardwood House.
 

Brian Cloyd is Vice President of Global Corporate & Community Relations for Steelcase Inc., the global leader in the office furniture industry. Cloyd is co-chair of the Education Reform Initiative and a member of Michigan Business Leaders for Excellence in Education.
 

John DeMaria is the Chairman and President of Quoin, Inc. and Almond Products Inc. He has previously served as President at Keeler Brass and Harmon Automotive.
 

Peter DeWitt is Co-Owner and Senior Vice President of DeWitt Barrels Inc, a 116 year old family owned industrial container reconditioner. In the spring of 2010, DeWitt Barrels was selected by the US Small Business Association as the Michigan Jeffery Butland Family Owned Business of the Year. Peter earned a B.A. degree in mathematics from GVSU in 1968.  
 

Robert Grooters is President of Robert Grooters Development Company, the largest privately held developer of industrial and manufacturing buildings in the region. The company ranks in the top ten in the US and has developed numerous business parks in West Michigan and constructed nearly 25 million square feet of buildings, including Bridgewater Place – Tower I.
 

Jeff Gustinis is the Director of Financial Reporting and Planning at Meijer. In this role, Jeff leads the accounting, financial planning and analysis teams. Prior to joining Meijer, Jeff spent 12 years with Ernst & Young as a Senior Manager in the external audit practice. Jeff graduated from the Seidman College of Business with a BBA with an emphasis in Accounting in 1995 and is a Certified Public Accountant.
 

Doyle Hayes is the President & CEO of dHayes Group. He has received multiple awards, including the GVSU Foundation Leadership Award in 1995 and Distinguished Alumnus of GVSU in 1991. Hayes also served as Superintendent of Manufacturing and Quality for General Motors before coming to Pyper Products Corporation.
 

Thomas Hiller is a Partner at BDO Seidman, LLP. He currently serves as the firm’s National Director of Insurance Industry Services and as Assurance Business Line Leader for the Grand Rapids office and has more than 30 years of public accounting experience. Nationally, Hiller is one of the firm’s insurance industry specialists and has assisted in the development of the firm’s audit programs for the insurance industry and the Internal Audit Manual for Insurance Companies. 
 

David Hoogendoorn is a Managing Partner at Ernst & Young LLP and has over seventeen years of experience serving public and private clients in the consumer products, retail, industrial products and automotive industries, many of which have significant global operations. Hoogendoorn has served clients including Herman Miller, Meijer, Alticor, Universal Forest Products, X-Rite, Gentex, Coachmen, and Wolverine World Wide.
 

J.C. Huizenga is Chair of Huizenga Group. In 1995, Huizenga founded National Heritage Academies, an educational service provider, and has grown it from one school to a national leader, serving over 32,000 students in 53 schools across five states.
 

Fred Keller is Chairman and CEO of Cascade Engineering, a leading provider of plastics solutions for the automotive, industrial, and solid waste industries. Keller founded the company in 1973, following an earlier career as metallurgist with Pratt & Whitney. He also serves as director of Meijer, Inc. and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
 

Robert (Buzz) Kersman is the retired owner and CEO of Lorin Industries. Kersman worked with Lorin for 42 years and has been awarded the Seidman Hall of Fame and Muskegon Hall of Fame.
 

Herb Lantinga is the CEO of Notions Marketing. Notions Marketing is a global distributor shipping to over 50 countries and an internet fulfillment center for the nation's leading retailers.
 

Dan Malone is Senior Vice President of Distribution and Customer Operations for Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy. Dan has overall responsibility for the company's electric and gas distribution systems, energy operations, customer operations, gas transmission and storage, employee development and skilling, Smart Grid program implementation and industrial safety.
 

Phil McCorkle is the retired President and CEO of Saint Mary's Health Care, a $450 million enterprise consisting of an acute-acre hospital, Advantage Health Physician Network, three health clubs, five outreach health centers, The Lacks Cancer Center, Saint Mary's Southwest, and the Hauenstein Center. Phil dedicated much of his time to volunteering at numerous health care organizations.
 

Louis Moran, II is Office Managing Partner of Deloitte where he has been a partner for 17 years. Lou has more than 30 years of experience providing service to companies in the manufacturing, consumer products, retail and real estate industries.  He is active in the Grand Rapids community, including serving as Board Chairperson of the Heart of West Michigan United Way, a member of the Executive Committee of Grand Action, a member of the Budget and Finance Committee for the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Finance Committee of the Economic Club of Grand Rapids. Lou is a certified public accountant and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of CPAs.
 

Mark Olesnavage is the Managing Director of Hopen Life Science Ventures, a private investment and management firm focused on helping early-to-mid-stage life science developments achieve commercial success and growth.
 

David Reglin is the Executive Vice President of Independent Bank of West Michigan (IBWM), the first bank to introduce totally free checking to the region in 1997. While serving as an IBWM senior vice president, he created the corporation’s title insurance agency, Independent Title Services, to serve the IBC’s needs statewide. In 2006, Independent Bank Corporation (IBC) was ranked 18 in the top 25 banks in the nation by American Bankers Association Banking Journal and was ranked 11 in the top 100 publicly traded mid-tier banks in the nation by US Banker.
 

Sharron Reynolds is the retired Vice President of Community Relations at Huntington Bank.
 

Gary Tilkin a veteran of the financial futures and commodities markets and a professional trader, envisioned a better solution for his clients who were trading exchange–traded currencies. At the time, the current alternatives lacked in market accessibility and customer support, so in 1997, Tilkin set out to create a solution at his own risk. The result was the creation of GFT, Division of Global Futures & Forex, Ltd., one of the first firms to offer online forex trading.
 

Steve Van Andel is the Chairman of Amway, Inc and was a prime architect of the global effort to develop the business strategy and restructure the operations of Amway Corp., culminating in the decision to create a sibling company, Access Business Group, LLC, and join it with Amway and Quixtar Inc. under the Alticor banner. He is dedicated to the renewal of downtown Grand Rapids, lending his time and support to the Grand Rapids Action Committee, the Van Andel Museum Center, and the Van Andel Institute, a major health research center in Grand Rapids.
 

Curt Wells is Executive Vice President and Regional Sales Manager for the Private Financial Group in West Michigan, leading one of the largest regional private banks within Huntington National Bank. Before joining Huntington, Wells banking career included large credit lending and Private Banking services for Fortune 500 corporations with Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh and New York City. He holds degrees from Carnegie-Mellon University and Indiana University.
 

Michael Wooldridge is a Partner at Varnum, LLP in the Corporate practice group and serves as Chair of the firm and its Policy Committee. His specialties include corporate governance, securities, and mergers and acquisitions. Wooldridge has managed and led a variety of public equity and debt offerings for financial services and manufacturing companies.
