L. William Seidman
L. William Seidman, founding chair of Grand Valley's Board of Trustees, died May 13, 2009 at the age of 88. Seidman was one of the founders of Grand Valley State University, helping galvanize local support for the establishment of a public four-year university in West Michigan.

Baker Lofts: Old furniture warehouse reborn as apartments downtown GR

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Standing on a newly-constructed parking ramp next to what used to be a vacant, hulking furniture warehouse, banker Jack Bernhard recalled his initial unease with the new Baker Lofts redevelopment project.
“I remember standing below here and not getting the full vision,” said Bernhard, a community development banker with Chase Bank in Chicago, the project construction lender.
That was three years ago. Now,“it’s great to see the creation of a new neighborhood."
