Intern Connect networks downtown

Interns are going to be flocking to Grand Rapids later this month.

West Michigan Intern Connect, a new and free event hosted by the nonprofit Hello West Michigan, is looking to bring interns from all over West Michigan into the city for a networking event.

The event will be held across venues all over downtown Grand Rapids on July 30, from 2:30-7:30 p.m.

About 500-600 interns and about 100 business leaders are expected to attend the event.

Registration for the event ends today.

The goal is to connect interns to local business and community leaders and showcase what West Michigan has to offer young talent, said Cindy Brown, executive director, Hello West Michigan.

Brown said Hello West Michigan was asked by the state’s marketing arm, the Michigan Economic Development Corp., if it would develop and produce the intern event.

“We want interns to get out and see the area,” Brown said. “It would give them one last chance to see West Michigan, especially the city of Grand Rapids, and hear about the things happening. We’re inviting as many interns as we can.
