Feel unsure about the social work licensing process in Michigan? Keep getting contradictory advice? Licensing requirements have changed a lot in the past few years. For example, applications are online and training is required before you apply. Laurie Eldred, LMSW-C, MPA, CAADC, NASW-MI Region 4 representative will walk participants through the steps and costs to obtain your limited license in Michigan. Please attend session B.1: To Get Licensed or Not to Get Licensed if you have specific questions about licensure.

This session is a follow-up to the previous session, “The Process of Getting Licensed in Michigan.” Attendees can ask questions relevant to their situation or clarify the prior session. This session will answer questions related to getting micro or macro licenses, when to pursue licensure, questions about moving out of state, and more.

Jessica Campbell, University of Michigan Director of the Blavin Scholars Program

Dr. Scott Berlin is a professor in the Grand Valley State University School of Social Work with more than ten years of experience preparing graduates to pass the ASWB exams and providing supervision. This brief session provides information on achieving full licensure while holding a limited license, including the supervision requirements and basic strategies for passing the licensing exam.

 

Jessica R. Campbell (JC) – she/her - LMSW, has considerable work experience as a mental health provider assisting youth who have experienced trauma and serving students who have experienced time in foster care and/or homelessness. Jessica holds a Masters degree in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University, a Bachelors of Arts degree in Public Administration and Nonprofit Management and a Certification in Nonprofit Leadership from Grand Valley State University. Prior to joining the University of Michigan, Jessica created, developed and implemented Grand Valley State's University foster care support program called Fostering Laker Success. Jessica was published in The Child and Family Welfare: A Casebook by Jerry L. Johnson and George Grant Jr. She provides supervision services through Campbell’s Pursuit, LLC.

Have questions about what employers are looking for in a social work resume? This session will go over resume formats, choosing what content to highlight, applicant tracking systems, and how to write a meaningful cover letter. This session will be tailored to social work students and will have time for Q&A to answer any resume/cover letter questions.

Employer Panels

Come and meet representatives from organizations that are currently hiring MSW and BSW social workers! Each employer will provide a brief overview of the social work roles within their organization and why a new grad would want to work for them. Sessions will provide insider tips for successfully interviewing with their organization and advice they have for new graduates.

Session D.1: Human Trafficking for Social Workers: A Licensing Requirement

Prior to applying for a limited license in social work, Michigan requires applicants to have completed Human Trafficking training. This breakout session will provide attendees with the training and information needed such as understanding the types and venues of human trafficking, identifying victims of human trafficking, and the warning signs of human trafficking. A certificate of completion will be available for attendees to download and save for their records.
