As you are aware, The School of Social Work is a secondary admission program. This means that although you have been admitted to the University, you must meet certain criteria before you are granted admission into the School of Social Work. This admission status is called “candidacy”, and must be completed before enrolling in upper level Social Work courses. The candidacy process only occurs during the spring, and normally prior to the junior year. You can find a listing of the candidacy requirements here. You should carefully review the candidacy checklist to ensure you are on track for admission to the School of Social Work.
The CCPS Undergraduate Advising Center reviews the records of all Social Work majors who have 45 or more credits every winter to assist students with understanding the admission requirements for the program and what to register for during the upcoming advanced registration period. We have reviewed your academic progress toward candidacy and would like to provide you with the results of this pre-candidacy review. The results will indicate whether it appears you will meet the candidacy requirements for the upcoming Fall 2014 semester or if you may be missing requirements that will need to be fulfilled before admission can occur. This review includes all of your currently enrolled course work through Winter 2014. Please review your myPath degree audit report available in myBanner to see your course work. If you need assistance with how to generate a myPath report you can find instructions here. This is a general review of your work to assist you with the advanced registration process. It is not a formal indication of your eligibility for admission to the program. This will occur during the formal candidacy application process in Spring/Summer 2014.
Our review of your academic progress indicates that your status is:
NOT YET – it appears that you are missing more requirements than can likely be completed prior to Fall 2014. (See the email we sent you for specifics)
1. If you are a transfer student – review your record to ensure that all of your transfer work has been recorded. If you believe there is work missing you should contact your former institution to request a new official transcript be sent to GVSU Records, 1 Campus Drive, Allendale, MI 49401 for processing. It may be a good idea to check in with an advisor to see if your missing transfer work will satisfy the requirements. Please call 616-331-6890 to schedule an available time that works for you and bring an unofficial copy of your transfer transcript with you. An advisor can then assist you with the next steps for how to register for courses. You will not be able to register online without meeting the pre-requisite requirements
2. If you have a plan to complete ALL missing requirements PRIOR to Fall 2014, you will need to request special permission to register for your fall and winter courses. It may be a good idea to check in with an advisor to see if your plan will work. Please call 616-331-6890 to schedule an available time that works for you. An advisor can then assist you with the next steps for how to register for courses. You will not be able to register online without meeting the pre-requisite requirements.
3. If you do not yet have a plan to complete the missing requirements prior to Fall 2014 then please plan to register for any missing requirements in the upcoming academic year. If you need advising assistance, please contact the CCPS Undergraduate Advising Center at 616-331-6890 to schedule an available time to meet with an advisor.
