Guiding Principles

Effective Teaching: The Center's first priority is to promote quality, student-centered education in college-level science and mathematics through the continual development of teaching practice that is proven to be effective and inclusive.

Scholarship: Excellence in teaching at the university level demands the faculty's active participation in relevant scholarly activity. The Center will promote contact and collaboration between the nation's college and university faculty toward this end.

Community: The nation's college and university faculty form a community dedicated to teaching and research in the liberal tradition. The Center's activities will serve to create and strengthen this community and help it meet its goals.

Mission Establish the necessary conditions for quality learning in mathematics and the sciences at GVSU and throughout the nation.

Vision: CESME will be recognized as a major venue for continuing education in best educational practices in the sciences and mathematics and a place to find contact and collaboration with the nation's college and university scholars.

Values:

- Effective scholarship, teaching and learning.
- Engagement with the global community of scholars to promote global teaching excellence.
