Some of our 2014 graduates shared their future plans:

 

First Last Major/s Plans
Josh Adkins Cell and Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry Plans include a graduate program at Grand Valley, the Masters in Cell and molecular biology with a PSM (professional science masters) in Biotechnology.  My future outlook includes working in industry. Fields include Biotechnology, Research in Cancer, Systems biology, Stem Cells, or Protein Degradation.
Mario Amaya-Velazquez  International Relations I graduated from GVSU in December '13. Following graduation from early January to late April 2014, I spent time in Nairobi, Kenya interning with an organization called SOS Children's Villages as a teacher. Over the coming summer, I plan to remain in Michigan and return to work at GVSU's Padnos International Center in a new capacity. I am currently on track to join the Peace Corps (in the Education track) sometime in mid-Fall 2014. 
Avery Andres Cell/Molecular Biology, Spanish minor Throughout the summer I'll be working here in Grand Rapids, until the fall when I'll join the California State University at Long Beach Biology Master's program, emphasis on Marine Biology.  
Elizabeth Balboa B.S. in Biomedical Sciences and B.A. in journalism I will be taking a year off before I pursue a graduate degree in peace studies. In the transitional year, I will be taking two final classes at GVSU to complete a third major (B.A. in religious studies), and I hope to get involved in the interfaith movement inspired by the Kaufman Interfaith Institute and the common ground initiative led by the Hauenstein Center. Somewhat unrelated to my career, I will also be adjusting to married life (starting July) with my fellow graduating Laker, Joe Hogan.
Dirk Becker Biomedical Sciences, History minor I will be attending Medical School at MSU College of Human Medicine in Grand Rapids.  I will always remember and appreciate my time at GVSU! 
Joseph Bielecki Biomedical Sciences and Philosophy my plans after graduation are to attend Michigan State University's college of osteopathic medicine.
Jamie Bott English I will be going to grad school at gvsu for the doctorate of physical therapy program.

Thomas Campolong Political Science  Attending Law School to continue education in International Law
Angela Carollo Advertizing/PR After I graduate, I'm moving to Mount Pleasant to attend graduate school at Central Michigan University... for free (thanks to the connections I've made while working at the Lanthorn). I'll study marketing and work for CMU's newspaper, CM-Life. I can't wait!
Holly  Cassell Music I will be continuing my studies in graduate school, working towards a masters in musicology.
Katie Chernoby  Biomedical sciences and Dance and a minor in Chemistry Going to pharmacy school at Ferris 
Bryanna Cikesh Biomedical Sciences I will be entering graduate school to Boston University to pursue a Master in Public Health degree concentration in Epidemiology.
Aaron Clark Biostatistics Masters I have a new job lined up for after graduation.
Morgan Coby Writing After graduation, I will return to Detroit, Michigan, the city of my birthplace, and will look for work. In addition to that, I will focus on writing books of poetry and novels, building my brand as a writer, going into business for myself, and encourage people around me to open their minds to new possibilities and ideologies. My first major project, "Romantically Incorrect," a book of 30 confessional love poems, will be released later this year, and there are many more projects to come ... 
Emilee Cooper Psychology and Criminal Justice I will be attending the University of Michigan this coming fall to obtain my Masters in Social Work Degree. 
Rebecca Cronin   I've accepted a Graduate Assistantship in the PA cadaver lab at WMU for fall 2014-summer 2015. I will be studying for my masters in Biological sciences. 
Jonathon Curtis Communications  with an emphasis in Film/Video I plan on traveling aboard to India for a few months.
Stacy Georges Special Education After graduation, I will be looking for a teaching position in Michigan. At some point in the future, I want to return to Ghana, where I studied abroad. 
Haley Gerlofs International Relations I will be interning with American friends of UNRWA in Washington, D.C.!
Ashley Glowacki History and Psychology I am going full time at my current place of employment and working on editing my first two novels and finishing my third. I hope to become a published author.
Nkrumah Grant Biology I am happy to say that I will be continuing my education at Michigan State University where I will be seeking a doctorate's degree in microbiology and molecular genetics. 
Jennifer Grofvert Social Studies-Secondary Education, Psychology-Teachable minor Future Plans- To find a teaching job in West Michigan. (Funny I know, but I can do it!) Then I will begin taking grad classes within the next couple years as a requirement to maintain my teaching certifications and subsequently work towards my masters degree.
Jesse Grysen Natural Resources Management Heading off to work! Started with Green Valley Agriculture a couple weeks ago.
Katie Gundersen Biology I will be attending the University of Minnesota's School of Veterinary Medicine in the fall.
Anthony Hage Biomedical Science  I will be entering University of Michigan Medical School next fall. 
Jacquelyn Heuer Anthropology and a minor in German I have been accepted to a Master's program in Anthropology at New Mexico State University, which is where I will be going next.
Bryan Heystek Biomedical Science and Spanish  I plan to take a year off and find a job somewhere in the field, maybe doing research somewhere. Then I want to teach English in South Korea for a year, and then I plan to attend Graduate school either in Occupational Therapy, Prosthetics & Orthotics, or possibly a Masters in Biomedical Science. So many great opportunities!
Jessica Hines Health Communication and Public Relations  I have accepted a full-time communications specialist with Lakeland Healthcare in St. Joseph Michigan in which I will be responsible for the internal communication efforts of the regional health care system that consists of 22 locations.
Garrett Hisler Psychology I will be attending Iowa State University to pursue a PhD in Social Psychology. Afterwards I plan to apply for academic positions teaching and conducting research. 
Emily Horvat Art Education  I am beginning to take courses for my elementary endorsement. If I find a teaching position in the fall, I will take it slowly, but If I do not find a job for the fall, I will continue to take classes for my elementary endorsement and working at the College of Education.
Melissa Houghton Classics This fall I will begin my work as a PhD student in the Classics Department at UC Santa Barbara. I will be specializing in Ancient History.
Maureen Hurd Biology I have a job for this summer as a research assistant in Coconino National Forest of Arizona where I will be studying the life history evolution and the effects of climate change on many different bird species. When I return, I plan to begin job hunting and preparations for graduate school in the fall of 2015. I plan to apply to MSU as well as several other schools.
Cory Hurless Art History, minor anthropology I am entering grad school fall 2014 at Eastern Illinois University where I will be pursuing a MA in Historical Administration.
Megan Hurley Biology with an emphasis in secondary education  I plan on starting a new job after graduation. I am in the process of interviewing for jobs now. 
Katelynn Hutchison    I've chosen a masters program in Clinical Psychology at the University of California at Fullerton.
Ashton Huzarski Advertising, Studio Art minor  I am looking for a full time position in an advertising or marketing firm. I hope to get a position as an Advertising Account Executive. 
Holly  Malinoski Biomedical Sciences Currently, I am planning on attending University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry next year.  It's hard to believe I'll be graduating in 9 days! Go Lakers!
Kelsey Manoogian Statistics and minor in Mathematics Through the amazing opportunities the GVSU Statistics Departments has offered me, I was fortunate enough to secure a full time position with Ally Insurance in Southfield, MI. I interned with them last year and they offered me my dream job! I recommend Grand Valley to every high school student I come accross because my experience here was nothing shy of amazing. I look forward to being a Lake for a Lifetime and contributing my success back to the place it all began.
Linnéa Marks Psychology major (minors in Applied Statistics and Philosophy I'll be entering the University of Texas at Austin's Cognitive Neuroscience graduate program in pursuit of a Ph.D. in Psychology.
Gina Martorana Clinical Exercise Science with Pre-Physical Therapy emphasis I will be attending a graduate school post-graduation from GVSU. 
Kelly M. Mazur B.S. in Psychology with an Adult and Aging Life minor Accepted to Western Michigan University for Master's in Social Work degree. Recently employed at Brain Balance Achievement center in Birmingham, MI for the summer.
Heather Miedema Music Education Moving to Zambia to create an elementary music education program at The Esther School.
Ashley Miller Health Communications and minor in Applied Statistics I will be attending University of Michigan in the fall to work on my Master''s of Public Health in Epidemiology.
Mikayla Pardon Integrated Science  My job starting this fall will be working for a Christian group at GVSU. It is called University Christian Outreach. This summer I will be doing mission work in Detroit before I return to Grand Rapids.
Elizabeth Peck Biomedical Sciences  I will be attending Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana for their Physician Assistant program.
Kristin Schmitt English Language and Literature I am planning to look for full time job in my degree: English Language and Literature, not sure where it will take me.
Tyler Shane Seeley History I have spent the last five months assembling a creative team and beginning in May will be working full-time on a motion picture dealing with memory deterioration and child psychology.  
Abby Stevenson Clinical Exercise Science  I am going to Oakland University in the fall for physical therapy graduate school. 
Kyle Summerfield Secondary Education. Social Studies  Graduating and taking a high school teaching job in Texas in the fall
Alexandra Szwaja   After graduation, I will be moving out to Colorado Springs to start a new job there teaching in an elementary school.  
Alexa Tangara Spanish and philosophy  I will be entering the M.A. philosophy program at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore in the fall. I hope to return to my husband in the U.S. for a Ph.D. program after I receive my Masters.
Kyle  Tanis Chemistry I have a job lined up for me. I will be continuing work at Heat Transfer International where I did my summer internship and am now taking over full time as the laboratory manager.
Sean VanDyke Mathematics Upon graduation I will be switching over to a full time position at my current job as a mechanical designer at Hydro Chem Systems in Wyoming, Michigan. In addition, stemming from my 4 years as a member in The Cavaliers and Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps, I will also continue pursuing my passion for the performing arts by writing and teaching competitive high school marching band programs across the state. I am so grateful for the opportunities I have been given while here at Grand Valley. From engineering school, to performing in music ensembles, to earning my mathematics degree, the staff, faculty, and my classmates-some now life long friends have truly made this an experience of a lifetime for me and have played a positive role in the development of my professional career. Go Lakers!
