Announcing Three Out-of-the-Box Events!
Sponsored by CLAS Faculty Council, CLAS Personnel Committee and the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Topic: Draft Standards & Criteria for Personnel Evaluation Thank you very much to everyone who has contributed to the lively discussion about the draft CLAS Standards and Criteria for Personnel Evaluation which the CLAS Faculty Council posted on Blackboard just before the semester started. The Faculty Council has reviewed all the comments we received on the discussion board, from the two Out-of-the-Box events that we have held, and on e-mail and we have revised the draft CLAS Standards. The revised version (dated November 2, 2009) is now posted on Blackboard. You can read it by clicking on CLAS Faculty, and then on CLAS Standards and Criteria for Personnel Evaluation. The revised version, along with a teaching rubric that we developed to parallel the rubric for scholarly and creative activity, is posted right under the original draft. Grace E. Coolidge Associate Professor of History Grand Valley State University CLAS Faculty are invited to participate in the last of three Out-of-the-Box events being offered this fall. These workshops will give faculty a chance in work with and respond to the draft Standards and Criteria for Personnel Evaluation that were announced at the beginning of the semester. A copy of the draft standards is located on your Blackboard site under CLAS Faculty. Philosophy underlying the workshops: The CLAS standards will be strengthened by a wide variety of creative feedback from faculty members. How will we do this? Workshop participants will work with the personas of fictional faculty members to explore how the CLAS standards might affect people from different disciplines and at different points in their careers. The outcomes of these discussions will be used as the Faculty Council revises the draft Standards and Criteria for Personnel Evaluation. We encourage faculty from all disciplines to participate. If you are a senior faculty member with lots of experience or a junior faculty member who is working your way through the review process, we would very much like to hear from you. The Out-of-the-Box events provide an intense small group discussion and a great opportunity to interact with your CLAS colleagues and hear a variety of perspectives on the draft standards. How many faculty can participate at each event? 24. The workshops take place in the Pere Marquette Room in the Kirkhof Center on the following dates: Friday, November 20 – 11:00-1:00 (lunch included)
2204 KC -- the Pere Marquette Room Registrations for Friday, November 20 – 11:00-1:00 are now closed. Questions? Contact Faculty Council Chair Grace Coolidge.
