Arts at Noon

The 36thseason of Grand Valley State University's annual Arts at Noon series begins this Wednesday at noon in the Cook-DeWitt Center with a performance by Jessica Louise Coe, soprano, accompanied by GVSU faculty member Robert Byrens, piano, performing the songs of Benjamin Britten.
There are seven concerts this Fall ranging from indie pop vocalist Mônica da Silva to a re-creation of a civil war-era brass band, the Dodworth Saxhorn Band. Except as noted on Monday, December 2, all of the Arts at Noon events will take place on Wednesdays in the Cook-DeWitt Center, begin at 12:00 noon, and last approximately one hour. All of the concerts are free and open to the college community and the general public. Wednesday, October 16 Dodworth Saxhorn Band
The Dodworth Saxhorn Band, America’s Premier 19th Century Brass Band, presents The Civil War Years: A Civil War Commemoration and Veteran’s Salute. Based in Ann Arbor, this 17-member ensemble brings America’s past to life through music, song, drama, poetry, dance, and theatre and highlights musical virtuosity on 150-year-old brass instruments. Enjoy classic American songs in this special historical presentation.
Wednesday, October 23 Cello Fest!
Led by GVSU Cello Professor Pablo Mahave-Veglia, Cello Fest! is an annual event that brings to campus some of the leading cello performers and teachers in the country. This year’s concert will feature seven internationally renowned guest artists: Germán Marcano, Jeremy Crosmer, Aron Zelkovicz, Anthony Arnone, Alicia Eppinga, Martine Bennmann, and Melissa Kraut.
Monday, December 2 Holiday Music for Brass Quintet
Back for the third year in a row, the GVSU Brass Quintet presents Holiday Music for Brass Quintet. Come and listen to the wondrous sound of holiday carols arranged for brass. GVSU faculty members Richard Stoelzel and Kevin Good, trumpet; Richard Britsch, horn; Mark Williams, trombone; and Paul Carlson, tuba, will brighten your holiday season with joyful music.
