  • CLAS Lifetime Faculty Service Award

3. The Faculty Writing Group

In collaboration with the writing center, we want to extend a formal invitation to you to join a Faculty Writing Group.  The group will meet regularly throughout the semester to share scholarly and creative writing and to gain detailed feedback. Typically, each group member would be assigned a day to present their work to the group and will circulate the writing by e-mail in advance of the scheduled meeting. All other group members, then, would provide verbal and written comments to the author during the hour-long meetings.

We welcome projects ranging from book chapters to conference papers, or other professional writing with looming deadlines. The group members will decide on meeting frequency and schedule at our first organizational meeting (TBA). Please send an e-mail expressing your interest, project plans, and potential meeting days to either or both of us at:

Médar Serrata, Assistant Professor

Department of Modern Languages and Literatures serratam@gvsu.edu

Joel Wendland, Assistant Professor

Liberal Studies Department wendlajo@gvsu.edu

4. Grand Valley Opera Theatre’s production of Urinetown, The Musical

GVSU’s Opera Theatre is doing its part to help reduce paper waste, and we endorse the University’s sustainability efforts. We therefore are sending you this offer electronically!

5. New Mileage Rate as of January 1, 2014

The University has announced that effective January 1, 2014, the mileage reimbursement rate will be decreased slightly for Grand Valley faculty and staff members.  When traveling on university business mileage will be reimbursed at 56 cents per mile.  This is the new IRS-approved rate – which the University cannot exceed.

This new rate is effective for all travel that occurs after December 31.  Travel before January 1 will be reimbursed at the previous rate (56.5 cents per mile) regardless of when the travel and expense reimbursement forms are submitted for payment.

Updated forms will be available soon at: http://www.gvsu.edu/busfin/travel-forms-32.htm

If you have any questions, please contact Kim Suber at X12203.
