1. Last Date of Academic Activity (LDAA) (attachments, F&Q, How-To) – Jerry Montag and Chick Blue
Beginning Winter 2012, the Last Date of Academic Activity is required by federal financial aid regulations, when entering a final grade of “F” or “NC.”
Note from Chick: we are calling it Last Date of Academic Activity in an effort to suggest that taking attendance is not being mandated, rather setting a date of last activity can be determined in many ways.
I will add at this point, this is NOT complicated, but it is one extra step that needs to be taken when assigning an F or NC as a final grade.
Attached are FAQ’s about the Last Date of Academic Activity and a document that shows HOW to do the grading. Here is a link (www.gvsu.edu/registrar/ldaa) to the registrar’s web page where the same information can be found. Click on “Faculty”, then “Last Date of Academic.”
Dates of Training:
Tuesday, January 31 10:00 – 11:00am HRY 114
Thursday, February 2 1:00 – 2:00pm CHS 189
Wednesday, February 8 2:00 – 3:00pm HRY 117
Friday, February 10 11:00 – 12:00noon DEV 115A
Tuesday, February 14 11:30 – 12:30pm DEV 115 A
To sign up for these go to http://gvsu.edu/seminar. Click on Faculty Grading and then click on LDAA FAQ’s.

6. The African Diaspora Conversation Series (attachment)
The African Diaspora Conversation Series is a lunch hour lecture series hosted by the African/African American Studies program in Area Studies. The goal is to create an engaging forum for faculty members, as well as students. All faculty members at GVSU will get a chance to showcase their scholarship in so far as it is connected to the African Diaspora. In such a forum, students will have an opportunity to join in scholarly discussions, too. They will have an opportunity to see and engage in aspects of academia in which their professors participate outside of the classroom.
The theme for our conversations for Fall and Winter 2011/12 is "Migrations,” a fitting place to begin when doing scholarship on the African diaspora, a broad and rich area of study. We already have speakers from GVSU's History, Philosophy, and Area Studies Departments.
For more information, contact Sherry Johnson johnsshe@gvsu.edu .
