1. Did you know that GVSU has twice the national average of first generation students? Advising Forum Event (attachment)

On behalf of the Advisor Development Sub-Committee I would like to invite you to another 2011 Academic Advising Fall Forum. The event is scheduled for December 8th 3-5pm in Loosemore Auditorium. During this 2 hour event we will focus on the First Generation Student experience at GVSU. In addition to the opportunity to learn more about this topic, this session will also provide an opportunity to collaborate with GRCC faculty and staff who have been invited to join us for this event.  Interested participants should reserve a seat at www.gvsu.edu/seminars. Thank you so much for your support!

~Jennifer L. McCaul, Director

2. Author Recognition – call for submissions

The dean of the Grand Valley State University Libraries cordially invites you to submit your 2011 published works for recognition and honor. If you have not already been notified by the library that we have your publication information, please contact us so we may recognize your work. Publication examples may include a book, a chapter, an article, proceeding papers, visual media, short stories, or other published work. A printed bibliography citing your accomplishments, and those of other Grand Valley authors, will be created in conjunction with this event.

To have your work included, please email your submission to authors@gvsu.edu by Wednesday, January 11, 2012.

Also -- mark your calendar: Annual AUTHOR RECOGNITION RECEPTION: Loosemore Auditorium, DEV (Pew Campus, G.R.), Tuesday, March 20, 2012, 4-6:30 P.M.

3. Final Exam Schedule Compliance

As the semester draws to a close I would like to send a reminder about the policy for final exams.  University policy states that all classes must meet for a culminating experience during final exam week on the appropriate scheduled exam day and time. In the event that the course structure involves a take-home final or is an online course, the due date for submission of this exam should be the scheduled exam day and time. Both the Provost and the Dean expect compliance with this policy. There are no exceptions to this university policy.

4. Confidentiality of Student Work

A reminder to safeguard student work is also appropriate. While it seems efficient to place graded student work in the halls, this practice breaches confidentiality procedures. Please remind colleagues that all student work should be returned in a manner that ensures confidentiality and reduces the likelihood of student theft of the graded work of other students.
