I thought you’d be interested in a new “University performance tracker” introduced last Tuesday by the group “Business Leaders for Michigan” in a hearing before the House higher education panel in Lansing. Here is a link to an advance look:

Most informative for you may be the categories in which “performance” is conceptualized and tracked. You’ll see that Grand Valley compares favorably on all fronts except taxpayer support -- a criterion we don’t manage—politics always intrudes on appropriations, as you will not be surprised to hear. But if you have alumni boards, you should share this with them, along with the sentiment, stated as you think best, that when lawmakers decide to be serious about performance, Grand Valley will be in line to receive an entirely different level of support—and in the meantime, these independent data show that GVSU has been spectacularly productive stewards of the state’s meager, and decreasing, support.
