A request has been made by Ken James, Assistant Vice President for Affirmative Action, for a short written summary of activities and programs that promoted awareness, increased diversity and helped foster inclusion occurring in CLAS during calendar 2008. Examples could be retention initiatives, advertising in diverse publications, conferences and workshops staged or attended on topics like sexual harassment, recruitment and retention, working in diverse environments, etc. So that Monica Johnstone can collate the responses from all the units in CLAS, we ask that you email your brief bulleted items to johnstmo@gvsu.edu by January 28th. *
The FAR is now posted on the CLAS website. Remember this document is due February 2, 2009 to your unit head.
Last summer a proposal was submitted the National Institute of Standards and Technology for an unusual grant to fund the building of life science research facilities. The GVSU proposal was ranked reasonably well among the 93 submissions. A debrief has identified the strengths and weaknesses of the proposal, and there are indicators that more building funding may soon become available in the federal stimulus package. The grant team is keen to seek this funding and must be ready with the revised proposal quite soon. To improve the clarity of the vision for the science outcomes a new life science research building in Allendale would bring to GVSU, we need faculty input. Three one-hour consultations are being held for your convenience:
Friday, January 23 in the Lake Michigan Center, Muskegon (AWRI) at 3:00-4:00pm
Monday, January 26 in 540 CHS 10:00-11:00am
Wednesday, January 28 in 308 PAD 9:00-10:00am
Contact Monica Johnstone for more information 1-8125 or johnstmo@gvsu.edu
Thank you for making relevant faculty aware of this consultation process.
