Lea earned her Master's degree in Reading from Grand Valley State University in 2001. She started her career in education teaching social studies and language arts at Forest Hills Central Middle School. After 10 years she expanded her audience outside the classroom to become the Learning Consultant at Forest Hills Eastern where she serviced middle school families, students, and staff for seven years. Currently an Instructional Coach, Lea supports Forest Hills teachers and principals in school improvement practices.
During her tenure at Forest Hills Lea's passion for environmental sustainability has grown. As a leader in this area, Lea is the Environmental Education Coordinator for the district, which includes support for teachers around environmental stewardship and service learning with a focus on watershed issues.
