Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines
Date: March 12, 2013
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: UICA, 2 West Fulton, Grand Rapids
In honor of Women's History Month, UICA will offer a free screening of WONDER WOMEN! THE UNTOLD STORY OF AMERICAN SUPERHEROINES. This film traces the fascinating evolution and legacy of Wonder Woman. From the birth of the comic book superheroine in the 1940s to the blockbusters of today, WONDER WOMEN! examines the ways that popular representations of powerful women often reflect society’s anxieties about women’s liberation. WONDER WOMEN! goes behind the scenes with Lynda Carter, Lindsay Wagner, comic writers and artists, and real-life superheroines such as Gloria Steinem and Kathleen Hanna. Dr. Julia Mason, Assistant Professor of Women and Gender Studies, will lead a discussion immediately following the film.
