Community Engagement Program Development Team

Purpose:
The Community Engagement Program Development Team exists to support GVSU’s engaged scholars and attract new scholars to engaged teaching, learning, and research. The team actively designs and implements integrated programming, including training, network and partnership development, web resources, and an annual event. This is a working team, committed to doing, not simply advising.

Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Annually, create overall plan for learning and connection opportunities and a timeline for implementation
  • Design and host an annual community engagement event—SynergyWorks—that includes students and community partners
  • Identify and recruit participants within university and community networks
  • Develop, test, and promote tools for building effective partnerships
  • Gather and share feedback on community engagement opportunities and resources from a variety of university perspectives

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to community engagement for the benefit of our students, our communities, our faculty, and GVSU as a whole
  • Interest in developing faculty members’ engaged teaching, learning, and research
  • Experience with engaged teaching, learning, and/or research
  • A commitment to collectively deepen the team’s learning through implementation and reflection
  • Willingness to share assets—skills, resources, partnerships, and networks—toward our common goals
  • Excellent communication skills, including superior listening skills

Time commitment:

  • Monthly meetings during the academic year, with more frequent meetings as needed for specific events
  • One year commitment
