In preparing the strategic plan, the advisory board reviewed numerous documents on the question of research and development at Grand Valley. We also considered the faculty development functions now assumed by the Faculty Teaching and Learning Center (FTLC) and we looked at the research grants supported by the Research and Development Committee in 2003-2008. Our review clearly indicates GVSU faculty members are deeply committed to all four purposes of scholarship described by Boyer and principally supported by funding provided through the Research and Development Committee. The broad-based community involvement in our strategic planning process ensures that the programs we plan to implement will benefit all of our faculty and staff and will receive widespread support and participation.
