				<title>ASME District Competition</title>

							<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Our team from GVSU included  Dr. Barakat (ASME District B leader)and Dr. Reffeor (Design Competition  Chief Judge).&nbsp; The students&rsquo; side of the team included 10 student  members of the ASME who participated with 2  teams in the Design Competition, One technical poster, One Website,  Three technical rapid abstracts, One Design Expo and One Oral  presentation.&nbsp; Here are the scores:</span></p><br />

<p style="margin-left:36.75pt"> <span style=""><span>1.<span style="font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;font-weight:normal;font-size:7pt;line-height:normal;font-family:'Times New Roman'">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span></span></span><span style="">Dan Mcgrail won first place in the Old Guard Technical Web Page Competition. </span></p><br />
<p style="margin-left:36.75pt"> <span style=""><span>2.<span style="font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;font-weight:normal;font-size:7pt;line-height:normal;font-family:'Times New Roman'">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span></span></span><span style="">Jacob Hall won first place in the Student Design EXPO and third place in the Old Guard Oral Presentation Competition.</span></p><br />
<p style="margin-left:36.75pt"> <span style=""><span>3.<span style="font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;font-weight:normal;font-size:7pt;line-height:normal;font-family:'Times New Roman'">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span></span></span><span style="">GVSU student team (Steven Quirk,  Matthew Freundl, Taddeus Tjapkes and Caitlyn Hurley) won one of the two  top places in the district design competition, where in addition to the  prize, they qualify  to represent district B in the upcoming internationals in San Diego CA,  Nov. 2013.&nbsp; Just to provide a context, there were 16 teams in the  district competition this year.</span></p><br />
<p style="margin-left:36.75pt"> <span style=""><span>4.<span style="font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;font-weight:normal;font-size:7pt;line-height:normal;font-family:'Times New Roman'">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span></span></span><span style="">Dr. Wendy Reffeor and Dr. Nael  Barakat also represented our school very well as the Design Competition  Chief Judge and the ASME District B Leader respectively.</span></p><br />

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Over all, GVSU placed high in 4 out 6 competitions (more than any other school in the district).</span></p><br />
