Team 14: Integrated Packaging Machinery, LLC - Project: Cable Management System Evolution

Project Abstract

IPM's goal was to develop a redesigned cable management system which provides vacuum, power, compressed air, and communication to a robotic end of arm tool. The the idea of the redesign was to reduce cost while maintaining reliability. Cable management is a crucial component in robotic palletizing. As an integrated packaging company, IPM specializes in packaging and palletizing customer products carefully and efficiently. IPM has been successful in producing various cable management systems but they would like to add value to their integration services by reducing cost. To address the goal of decreasing costs, the vacuum air flow for the new design is placed through the wrist of the palletizing robots. This change allowed for a redesign of the mount, for fewer machining cost, removal of expensive bearings, and reduction in length of cables.
