English Overview

Language, the basis of human communication, and literature, which expresses what it means to be human, enriches and broadens students' lives. This preparation for excellence promotes success in careers that demand a high level of skill in critical analyzing, communicating, and writing.

Program Description

The study of English language and literature contributes directly to the liberal education of all Grand Valley State University graduate students by developing an awareness of the importance of language, and the value of critical reading and effective writing, and richness of the literature of the past and present.

English is one of the strongest professional majors because the skills, knowledge, and understanding acquired are invaluable preparation for any career, from education to publishing to business to government service.

 

Shakespeare Festival 2012 Student Competition

Essay competition on Renaissance topics written by GVSU graduate students. Awards for critical, historical, and scholarly projects relating to Shakespeare, his times, and the Renaissance (1350-1650 A.D). Monetary prizes offered for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners!
