What is an ESP Peer Mentor and what services does ESP's Peer Mentors provide?

     Student to Student Outreach (SSO) is comprised of upper-class students hired by The Educational Support Program (ESP) to serve as mentors and resource persons to ESP participants. The SSO staff members are not professional advisors - they are paraprofessionals trained to be supportive peers.

What is the SSO Office and where is it located?

   The Student to Student Outreach Office (SSO) is the Peer Mentor Office that participants can utilize as a place to study, relax, chat with Peer Mentors, and work on computer/internet based GVSU oriented assignments. The SSO Office is located passed the ESP front desk at 227 Student Services.  

What are the requirements for active participation in ESP?

    Each participant is required to meet with their ESP advisor a minimum of two times in the Fall and two times in the Winter Semesters in order to receive all benefits and services.                     (A good suggestion is that each participant meet with their Peer Mentor at least once a semester.)

   What academic equipment does The Educational Support Program provide?

  • Graphing Calculators
  • Laptops (WinXP)
  • Desktop Computer (located in SSO Office)
  • Fax Machine (located at ESP Front Desk)
  • Printers (located at ESP Front Desk and in SSO Office)

*Participants must fill out an equipment loan contract in order to ensure the safety and return of specific equipment.

 What is the Textbook Loan Program (TLP) and who qualifies?

   ESP may offer a textbook loan program every few semesters, based on funds available for this program. The ESP student must be eligible for the Pell Grant by completing their FAFSA. The participant's ESP advisor will be able to determine their eligibility.
