Description:

Encore Coming of Age Learning Lab (3 Days of Training - March 30, April 20, and May 25, 2012)

The Encore: Coming of Age ® Learning Lab is a three-day, in-depth program focused on increasing the role of experienced adult and skills based volunteers in your organization. Research shows skilled and experienced adults are moving into the nonprofit sector in increasing numbers, looking for volunteer service and skill-building opportunities. The Learning Lab is designed to develop tangible ways to increase the opportunities for these volunteers and prepare your organization to maximize their impact on your programs and services.

The curriculum is based on research regarding critical issues instrumental in engaging skilled and experienced adults in meaningful service. The goal of the Coming of Age Learning Lab is to harness this knowledge and put it to use while helping to engage skilled and experienced adults in meaningful service.

 The workshop includes information on:

  •  Who Are Adults Age 50+ Today? Learn about the cohorts that make-up the 50+ population, important differences within these groups, and how people 50+ can help you realize impact, achieve mission, and get more done!
  • How to Craft Compelling Opportunities for Skilled and Experienced Adult Volunteers: Explore strategies for developing opportunities for people 50+ that will help you achieve your mission AND that they will find fulfilling.
  • Developing Your Recruitment Message: It's the vision and ideas you must infuse into all your communications with people 50+ to make them think, "Now that's where I want to go!" Learn to use the tools you need to create that message.

We recommend your organization register two participants - one who has budget decision making authority such as the Executive or Development Director, and Volunteer Manager or Coordinator.

Cost: Thanks to the generous support of the Grand Rapids Community Foundation, we are able to offer this $2,000 Learning Lab for only $150 per organization for up to two staff members to attend.

IMPORTANT: If your organization has participated in the Coming of Age Learning Lab or Engaging and Retaining the New Volunteer in the past, you are eligible for a discount based on the amount already paid.  Please contact Melvene Tardy at tardym@gvsu.edu or call 616-331-6404 for discount code prior to purchasing your ticket.
