THE GOOD PERSON OF SETZUAN is the story of the eternal struggle between selfishness and charity. In his play, Brecht examines the social issues of the impact of capitalism on human relationships and the social response to idealistic altruism. Three gods go in search of people living the principles they have handed down but instead they have found only greed, evil, dishonesty, and selfishness until they meet Shen Teh. Will goodness and compassion survive amid crime and greed?\r\n
