Description:

The Authentic Organization: Ideas and Tools for Building Your Identity

From the look and feel of your materials to the stories you share with potential donors, your organization's identity matters. Strong identities go beyond the basics of program descriptions and describing what your organization does. They engage in your audiences in a compelling story about why your organization exists and how it uniquely makes change.

Join us for an interactive session that explores the fundamentals of a strong identity and shares practices and tools to move your organization forward. And have no fear--this will not be a traditional "brand building" workshop. No marketing gimmicks, tagline tricks, or generic brand strategies here. Just bring your passion for your organization and your cause, and we will help you start to uncover the heart of your organization's mission and work.

This workshop will be facilitated by Gretchen DeVault and Emily Stoddard Furrow.

Gretchen DeVault founded DVQ Studio in 2006 after working for over five years in non-profit communications with organizations such as the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce and Girl Scouts of Michigan Trails.  As a graphic designer and brand manager, her work earned an Addy Award for its ability to redevelop the image of Girl Scouting. Since launching the company, Gretchen has supported dozens of clients in defining their identities and finding their visual voice. In 2011, she received a Grand Rapids Business Journal “40 Under 40” award.

Emily Stoddard Furrow has worked in communications for over 10 years and began her career writing for a media start-up. As a strategist and facilitator, she helps organizations learn more about themselves and create plans to effectively engage their audiences. As a writer, she helps clients share their story in ways that are compelling, clear, and consistent with their brand. Prior to joining DVQ Studio, Emily worked with Williams Group and Heart of West Michigan United Way. In 2009, she received the Do Gooder Award from the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Greater Grand Rapids. In 2010, she received a Grand Rapids Business Journal “40 Under 40” award.
