Academic Advising
Program advisors work with participants to establish academic goals and individualized academic plans to make sure the students complete their degree requirements. Program advisors are available to assist with course selection, scheduling, academic planning, and transfer advising.
Study Skills Development
EXCEL assesses students' individual academic strengths and areas of concern. Program advisors work with participants individually to improve study skills, time management skills, reading and testing techniques, and other academic areas of concern.
Progress Report
The purpose of the progress report is to inform students of their current academic standing in a course. Program advisors work with participants to facilitate a discussion with instructors about the students' progress.
Tutoring
All Grand Valley students are eligible for tutoring in 100- and 200-level courses. EXCEL participants may receive additional tutoring hours and, if available, tutoring in upper-level (300-400) courses.
Career Exploration
Program advisors facilitate career exploration activities by helping participants examine academic majors and career interests. Program advisors work with students on career assessment, goal setting, and decision making.
Counseling/Resources
Program advisors utilize the relationship established through individual meetings to support students and refer them to necessary Grand Valley and/or community resources as challenges arise during their academic career.
