JR Automation is an automation company which is headquartered primarily in Holland, MI. JR Automation is broken up into multiple business units spread across Holland, MI, Auburn Hills, MI, Nashville, TN, Greenville and Liberty, SC, Ogden, UT, and locations in France and Singapore. JR Automation has over 2000 employees, and is seen as a global automated systems integrator.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
During my second rotation at JR Automation, my primary activities included designing assemblies to be built for custom automation applications, creating drawing packages, and assisting with in house projects as well as post-production modifications.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Through this experience, I acquired more refined design skills and design skills focused on advanced applications. I also gained more experience working with large assemblies, such as a full automation line. I gained a thorough understanding of machining and fabrication processes and the limitations of both, and developed an understanding of tolerances/fits. An understanding of materials and materials selection for certain applications was also gained, and applied during my day-to-day activities.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this internship was being able to work on real projects, and provide a real contribution to the team. I also enjoyed working with team members on projects, as it was insightful to bounce ideas around multiple people and making sure everyone's needs were met.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
From this experience, my interest in mechanical engineering has only been solidified. I am very interested in working in the automation space in the future once I become a graduated engineer and would love to continue working for JR Automation as I have truly enjoyed working here and building relationships amongst the engineering teams, as well as the functional teams.
