Description of the Organization

Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates (LIA) is a non-profit law firm that offers affordable, excellent immigration legal services to West Michigan communities. LIA's goal and mission are to stabilize West Michigan communities by providing low-cost legal services to immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I am in charge of a wide variety of activities and projects, some of which include organizing files for the office, doing research on a variety of issues including different countries' conditions, and examining advocacy initiatives for educational purposes.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

Through this experience, I am able to improve my research skills since I am mainly responsible for conducting research on a variety of topics for the organization. In addition, I am able to improve my communication skills, data management, and advocacy skills.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of this internship is the people that I work with and my fellow intern. Additionally, the workplace has a very friendly vibe and a stress-free atmosphere.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience has influenced my decision in a positive way about my future career goals as I gained a better understanding of the challenges that people from different countries face and the factors that drive them to immigrate to seek shelter in foreign countries.
