Koops Automation Systems is a 100% employee-owned company, focusing on designing, building, and integrating automation solutions. Koops is based in Holland, Michigan, with other buildings in Mexico, South Carolina, and Saginaw Michigan. Koops started in the automotive industry but has since expanded to the medical, aerospace, life sciences, defense, and many more industries. It is a rapidly growing company with around 300 employees across all campuses.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Throughout my co-op at Koops Automation Systems, I primarily worked on CAD, designing custom automation solutions. From adding fasteners to creating parts, I designed automated machines to increase production and lessen the manufacturing costs of various products.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
During this rotation of my co-op, I learned how to efficiently use SolidWorks, a CAD software used for 3D designing. I also strengthened both my verbal and written communication skills, while also growing my knowledge of the automation industry.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the co-op experiences was being able to grow as an engineer both technically and professionally. Seeing how far I have come from entering college and the things I have accomplished through my co-op rotation excites me for the future. I also thoroughly enjoyed being at a company that values all of its employees and empowers them to become the best version of themselves.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
From my experience, during this co-op rotation and from my previous rotations, I found my passion within engineering. I have learned I chose the correct major that best suits me and look forward to gaining more experience in the automation industry.
