Description of the Organization
I interned at Hudsonville High School as an Athletic Director Intern to Ben Farkas (Athletic Director) and Casey Glass (Assistant Athletic Director). Hudsonville is a part of the OK Conference Red Division, they have about 1970 students and provide 15 varsity sports. They value teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I collaborated with the athletic director on various daily responsibilities, including ensuring referee presence at games, offering hospitality services, managing events and games, and conducting research of the competitive landscape within the OK Conference
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
A few skills I learned were communication through different channels, getting officials through Arbitersports, and learning the process of making schedules for the next year. Learning how to manage and facilitate operations for athletic events
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part was working with Mr. Farkas, he would always answer my questions and encouraged me to dive deeper into critical thinking. He made it a goal from the start to give me the tools to succeed in the future.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This internship has solidified that I want to pursue a career as an Athletic Director, particularly at the high school level, where I can utilize my love for sports, coaching and mentorship to support student athletes and beyond.
