Description of the Organization
The Grand Rapids Griffins is an AHL hockey team that is the primary affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. The front office of the Griffins manages the business aspects of the hockey team. This includes sales and marketing, public and community relations, ticket operations, finance, and administration.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
As a Game Night Intern, most of my tasks involved box office duties. These tasks included ticket sales, will call, and customer service duties. Also, during select games I worked in guest services. In guest services I was able to give great customer service and help with any issues that may happen. Throughout my internship I was able to help distribute promotional items, assist with season ticket holder benefits, and assist with payments during jersey auctions.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Through this internship I was able to learn ticketing software and ticket sales processes. I improved my customer service and time management skills and I learned how to work in a fast-paced environment.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this internship was learning the behind the scenes aspects of a hockey game. It was really interesting to see how so many different departments have to come together to create a smooth game.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has given me a better insight on what it is like to work for a professional sports team. Through this internship I have gained many skills that will help me when I begin my career.
