Description of the Organization

DornerWorks is an embedded systems engineering firm in East Grand Rapids that specializes in the aerospace, automotive, and medical industries providing solutions for companies on a national scale.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I worked on a project that integrated a video camera and LCD screen into a police radio microphone. The product is designed for officers to be able to record while on foot or take pictures at a crime scene and then review them at a later time or on the LCD screen.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I gained a deeper understanding of embedded linux and linux in general as well as the research techniques that are useful when debugging, patching, or writing for the platform.

Favorite Part of the Experience

It was really good to have experience in the corporate world, to see what I would be doing when I finished with school, to take a step back from the class routine and learn skills that can't be taught in the classroom.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

It has encouraged me in my pursuit of the embedded systems engineering field. It is an exciting, interesting, and fast changing field where design is done on new and innovative products.
